This original linocut print features the Mermaid of Zennor from the popular Cornish folk tale about a mermaid who lures her lover into the sea.
In common with most images of mermaids surviving either on bench-ends (as at Zennor) or on church wall paintings, the mermaid herself is shown combing her hair whilst looking in a mirror. In the print, fish look on almost oblivious to the mermaid's power.
One of variable edition of 2, hand printed on a Victorian Albion Press in Cambridgeshire, UK. Signed and editioned by the artist and printed on 250 gsm Somerset Velvet Paper. The printed part of the image measures approximately 9 x 6 inches (22 x 15cm).
