This original linocut print shows medieval snowballers at the turn of the fiifteenth century. The image is based on a delightful fresco at Torre dell'Aquila (Eagle Tower) in Buonconsiglio Castle, Italy.
The fresco, dating from ca. 1400, is roughly contemporary with the writing of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight; we can imagine such folk going indoors later to hear a medieval romance being read to them.
This image, printed from three separate linocut blocks, is finished in red, yellow and dark crimson An alternative to this print, finished in shades of wintry blue, is also available (subject to stock).
This is the artist's proof copy of this print and only one is available, hand printed on a Victorian Albion Press in Cambridgeshire, UK. Signed and editioned by the artist and printed on 250 gsm Somerset Velvet Paper. The printed part of the image measures approximately 6 x 6 inches (15 x 15cm).
